Leominster Blue Devil Athletic Scholarship Winners

LEOMINSTER, MA- On Thursday June 1, 2017 the Third Annual Leominster Blue Devil Athletic Scholarship Winners were announced at Leominster High School. This year’s winners were Samantha Peznola and John Gove. Each year one deserving female athlete and one male athlete are chosen by longtime “Voice of the Blue Devils” PA Announcer Richard Tucker.
The scholarship was started with the help of great Sponsors to the Leominster Football program. Those sponsors this past season included Dandini Disposal and Dandini Landscaping, Dr. Timothy Gallagher, Sherri Tammelin and Lana Kopsala of Coldwell Banker, Richardson Funeral Home, Great Clips, Senator Jen Flanagan and Dragonfly Driving School. In addition, Leominster Taxi and Espresso Pizza joined us later in the season. Without these sponsor, we would not be able to offer these scholarships.
Samantha Peznola will be attending Worcester Polytechnic Institute in the Fall to study Biomedical Engineering. Sam was a 4 year varsity swim team athlete, 2 years as Captain. She was also 4 years on the track team, also Captain for 2 years. In addition, same was 3 year Varsity player on the soccer team and a 2 year Captain for the team as well. Sam is on the National Honor society and volunteers at Ginny’s Food pantry and Habitat For Humanity. Samantha wrote in part in her submitted essay, “A knee surgery my junior year and the personal disappointment taught me to work through the hard times and know that someday the efforts will accumulate and produce the results you want”
John Gove was honored with 19 scholarships,a LHS record and that includes the Leominster Blue Devil Athletic Scholarship. John intends to study horticulture and Agricultural Sciences at Michigan State University this Fall. John was a 2 year captain on the soccer team and 4 years varsity player. He was named MVP, League All-Star and State All Star, senior year. John was also a track star, both indoor and outdoor for 4 years and a 2 year Captain for both. He was US #4 in the 600m senior year for the indoor track team. He was MVP for Outdoor Track sophomore and junior year and Top 5 at Leagues and District each year. John was 3 year National Honor Society. John wrote in his essay that “Every athlete that attends Leominster High School is faced with endless opportunity: the lessons that I have learned, memories and friends that I have made, and teams that i have been a part of will stay with me for the rest of my life.
